TVS Motor Company has launched its TVS iQube electric scooter in Kenya, marking the company’s first entry into the African market and, it says, making it the first Indian OEM to launch a premium electric scooter on the continent. The move forms part of TVS’s wider push into international EV markets.
The iQube comes in two variants: the iQube 3.5, with a 3.5kWh battery and a real-world range of 115km, and the iQube 2.2, with a 2.2kWh battery and a range of 75km. Both share a peak power of 4.6kW, comparable to a 125cc scooter, a 0-40km/h time of 4.2 seconds, BMS-controlled battery protection and IP67 waterproofing.
In a statement, Vijay Gidoomal, Chief Executive of Car and General, TVS’s distribution partner in Kenya, said the continent’s overall two-wheeler market is growing at 7-10% CAGR through 2030, while the electric segment is expanding faster still, with forecasts ranging from 15% to 25% CAGR through 2030-31. He added that EV penetration remains low relative to the size of the industry, leaving a long runway for growth.
TVS says its iQube range has now been ridden by more than one million customers for a combined 17.81 billion kilometres worldwide, helping avoid an estimated 623,595 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Peyman Kargar, President, International Business at TVS Motor Company, said: “It’s a key milestone in our growth journey.”
