Timex, headquartered in Middlebury, Connecticut, USA, has highlighted the role of titanium Metal Injection Moulding (MIM) in the production of its Giorgio Galli S2Ti watch, a limited-edition model positioned at the premium end of the company’s mechanical watch portfolio.
Limited to 500 pieces worldwide, the watch features a titanium case incorporating open-worked side sections and forged carbon elements. The case is manufactured using a Metal Injection Moulding process specifically adapted for titanium, enabling the production of intricate geometries that would be challenging and costly to achieve through conventional CNC machining.
The Ti-based MIM process is used to create the complex case architecture, including the open-worked lugs and side structures that form a key part of the watch’s design. The approach demonstrates how MIM can support the manufacture of high-value consumer products requiring both aesthetic detail and dimensional precision.
Timex described the Giorgio Galli S2Ti as an evolution of its earlier Giorgio Galli S2 model and forms part of the Timex Atelier collection. The watch combines the MIM-produced titanium case with a Swiss-made Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement and an integrated titanium bracelet.
While Timex is best known for its high-volume quartz watches, the company has expanded its mechanical watch offering in recent years. The use of titanium MIM in the Giorgio Galli S2Ti illustrates how Powder Injection Moulding technologies can enable the production of premium components for luxury and lifestyle applications.
