2026 has delivered a seemingly glossy scorecard for Chinas humanoid robot industry. Gan Xiaobin, deputy director of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technologys Science and Technology Department, disclosed at the July World Artificial Intelligence Conference press conference that 2026 full-year humanoid robot production is projected to exceed 100,000 units, a fivefold leap from roughly 20,000 units in 2025. Deputy Minister Ke Jixin noted that the production surge signals humanoid robots moving from technical exploration toward standardized, scaled development.
MIR DATABANK data shows AgiBot and Unitree have formed a clear duopoly. AgiBot announced 15,000 units off the production line in early June. Unitree completed approximately 11,000 units by March. AgiBot partner Yao Maoqing noted that mass production is the core foundation for stepping out of the lab and into industry, with deployment solutions now covering seven real scenarios including production-line loading, industrial handling, logistics sorting, guide services, retail, security patrol, and commercial cleaning.
Unitree is accelerating on a similar path. Asia-Pacific director Owen Chen disclosed that 2026 total shipments will at least double the 2025 figure of 6,500 units. To meet demand, Unitree plans to scale annual capacity to 30,000 units. However, through Q3 2025, more than 70 percent of Unitrees humanoid robot revenue came from research and education customers, with industrial applications only 9 percent, meaning most shipped robots did not actually enter factory work.
MIR rankings reveal another notable phenomenon: UBTech ranked third in production but slipped to fourth in shipments. High production with declining shipment rank typically indicates inventory buildup or delayed delivery cadence. UBTech on June 30 launched the U1, the worlds first mass-producible full-size hyper-realistic humanoid robot, with cumulative orders above 13,361 units and a U1 Pro price of 169,800 yuan. As a ToC consumer product, these orders are not counted in industry production statistics.
The gap between production and shipments reflects the industrys core tension: manufacturing capacity is established, but real user demand and sustainable commercial loops are still being built. Beyond the duopoly, five WAIC 2026 exhibitors outlined five different survival states: the National-Local Joint Humanoid Robot Innovation Center delivers pragmatically in tour-guide, security patrol, and industrial sorting; MATRIX-3 from Matrix Intelligence runs a high-end bipedal route at 580,000 yuan and 1,000 cumulative orders; Banxing Embodied takes an ODM customization route at 208,000 yuan per unit; Zhongjian Technology subsidiary Huajian exhibited the ZERO concept humanoid robot still at prototype stage; MagicLab chose vertical scenario entry with its Xiaomai traffic enforcement robot deployed at the Wuxi Marathon. The five firms outline an industry ecosystem far more complex than the simple boom narrative.
