Frequently Asked Questions
Which stainless steel grades can you mold with MIM?
We regularly mold SUS304, SUS316L, SUS420, SUS440C and 17-4PH. Sintered density reaches 7.6–7.8 g/cm³ (relative density ≥ 98%), with typical tolerances of ±0.3–0.5%. 316L and 304 are preferred for corrosion resistance, while 420, 440C and 17-4PH can be heat-treated for higher strength and hardness.
Can stainless MIM parts be polished to a mirror finish?
Yes. As-sintered surface roughness is around Ra 1.0 µm, which is already suitable for most cosmetic parts. Mirror polishing, brushing, sandblasting, PVD coating and passivation are all available as secondary processes — a common route for watch cases, hinges and decorative parts.
What is the MOQ and lead time for stainless MIM parts?
MOQ is 1000 pcs, but MIM economics improve significantly above 20,000 pcs per month. Mold lead time is about 20 days (mold fee typically RMB 20–40k), and production lead time is about 7 days — add 3–5 days when secondary processing is required. Our stainless steel capacity is around 5 million parts per month.
