Höganäs inaugurates new 35,500 m² powder facility in Shanghai

Sweden’s Höganäs AB has officially inaugurated its new 35,516 m² facility in Qingpu, Shanghai, China, following the relocation of its existing operations within the area earlier this year.
Höganäs is a leading manufacturer of advanced metal powders used in industrial applications. The company worked in collaboration with the Qingpu Government to bring this new project to fruition, having first established a presence in China back in 1993.
According to the Qingpu District Government, the new facility represents an investment of approximately RMB 560 million (USD 81 million). Höganäs’ existing Chinese operation was reported to have an annual production capacity of 72,000 tonnes, with the new facility incorporating additional equipment to expand capacity and upgraded R&D and testing facilities.
“China is leading the way in many technologies, and our customers are driving that progress. That is why we are investing in R&D and application development right here, to develop the next solutions together with them. This new site gives us a better platform to do exactly that,” said Henrik Ager, Group President and CEO of Höganäs Group.
Höganäs considers the new Qingpu site an important part of its strategy to expand its position in sustainable powder materials. “This relocation marks an exciting new chapter for Höganäs in China. Our new site in Qingpu puts us in an even better position to serve our customers, with a strong foundation to grow together with them,” added Hao Chen, Höganäs’ Market President in China.
“I am incredibly proud of our team, whose dedication made this relocation possible, and grateful for the excellent cooperation and support we received from the Qingpu Government throughout the project.”
